TRY SHOOTING

Ever Wanted To Try Target Shooting?

So you want to give the exciting and fast growing sport of shooting a whirl?  That’s great news and welcome to the club.  Some information below is provided to introduce you to requirements and some rules of the club and your first shoot.

Who can participate?

Anyone 12 years of age and older that meets all requirements of the NSW Police P650 declaration (PDF, 307.39 KB).

What does the experience include?

  • One-on-one supervision with a qualified range officer.
  • 50 rounds of .22 ammunition (pistol or rifle)
  • Firearm hire
  • Range hire
  • All safety equipment is provided (hearing protection and safety glasses)
  • Safety briefing (compulsory)

Note: Due to supervision requirements not all participants can shoot at once.

How long will my visit take?

You should allow for between 2 hours and 2.5 hours for your initial visit to the range to allow for all safety briefing and rules etc as well as the actual shoot itself.

What firearm can I use?

You can try out .22 pistol or .22 rifle shooting.

What should I wear?

You are advised to wear enclosed footwear and we recommend that you do not wear low cut tops, V-neck tops or singlets. Cartridges are extremely hot when being ejected from the firearm and if you get one down your top or on a bare foot it will be quite uncomfortable.

Additional information for your visit

On the day of your booking please arrive 15 minutes early and advise the range staff of your arrival. Please note that late arrival may result in your booking being forfeited as range bays are often very busy and fully booked by members and other Try Shooting participants.

You will need to complete a P650 form (linked above) (police requirement) but do not sign it as you will need to provide photo ID and sign the form on the day with your instructor.

There is zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs.

Junior Shooters

Juniors aged between 12 and 17 years old will require a parent or legal guardian to be present with suitable identification to sign the P650 form and release of liability form on their behalf. The junior must also bring identification (birth certificate, passport or official school photo ID).

Rescheduling/Cancellations

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will generally result in a loss of your booking. Rescheduling may not be able to be accommodated with less than 48 hours notice depending on how busy the night is.
